Node Operations

What a node operator does

Node operators (normal validators) help the network function by:

  • Participating in Proof-of-Stake consensus

  • Securing the chain

  • Supporting governance (because nodes ultimately control chain upgrades)

REAL’s consensus foundation

REAL uses a Proof-of-Stake model based on Cosmos Tendermint.

Rewards and incentives (simple)

REAL describes:

  • A baseline reward per block

  • Annual inflation in early years

  • Rewards split between:

    • Normal validators

    • Business enablers (tokenization / scoring / insurance)

Rewards for validators are designed around an “optimal stake rate target” (similar in style to Polkadot).

What governance means for nodes

On standalone chains:

  • Governance is ultimately controlled by consensus participants (nodes).

  • If enough nodes adopt new code, the chain can fork and change direction.

That’s why REAL Academy treats node operators as future “serious participants,” not passive users.

Node operators vs business validators

  • Node operators: keep the chain alive (blocks/security/governance)

  • Business validators: keep RWAs safe (onboarding/risk/insurance)
